1,000 Words - Call for Submissions
Papercut Books is now taking submissions for a 1,000 Word Anthology.
Guidelines: 1,000 Words is based on the idea that a picture is worth 1,000 words.
Stories must be 1,000 words no more, no less. All genres are welcome and encouraged. We are open to multiple submissions from the same writer, if the stories are not too incredibly similar.
The idea is to see how different types of writers create a story with so few words and from using the same image. It will also be hard to write a story that isn't like anyone else would write, but that is the challenge.
This collection will take a large amount of writers to fill a book, based on the limited word count, but there are only 34 spots left to fill.
We are looking for hungry writers, who want to continue into the publishing world and well established scribes, to bring notability to the collection.
Payment: The only form of payment offered with this collection is exposure and the great feeling that comes from besting this challenge. All proceeds from this book, other than the cost of printing will go to a literacy charity to be named later. This should also give all contributing authors the positive feeling of helping a good cause.
Deadline: There is not a deadline for this book, or a projected release date. We feel this will allow for a better influx of stories, creating an even better finished product.
Note: Not every story will be selected for this book. To avoid publishing two similar pieces, the editors will choose the better of any two stories that are alike. We will also not print a thoughtless stream of 1000 words, or boring submissions that would want to make reader put the book down. It is important that even with so few words something has to happen in the story.
The picture has been selected by photographer Michael Mullen
and it will double as the cover of the book.
All stories should be sent in a .doc format as an attachment, with the author
name the title of the story in the subject line of the email.
Send all submissions to creative@papercutbooks.com
Allow 2-5 weeks for a reply. All authors will be notified if their submission is accepted or not.
Please make these stories as twisted and interesting, as the image will let your mind create. Are you up to the task?
